Summer is coming up next month.
I can’t believe how fast time has gone by. We’re almost halfway through 2021! It felt like it was New Year not too long ago. Then the first day of spring was just around the corner.
Now we’re reaching #HotGirlSummer!
What better way to celebrate the summer than to curate a fun and catchy playlist for the season. However, I’m taking this list to another level by sharing my favorite rock songs.
As you all know, I usually write about K-pop and mainstream music. …
The writing industry is competitive.
The thought of diving into this industry can be scary for new writers. They have a lot of questions, concerns, and “what ifs.”
Trust me, I feel the same way too.
However, I’m an optimistic person. I like to think there’s room for everybody to succeed in any industry.
For us to do that, we need to work together and uplift each other.
Now, of course, everybody has to do their fair share of hard work. You have to put the wood and nails down before you can build a house.
Trust me, no one…
For the past few months, I’ve experienced doubt. Doubt is a word that I never thought I would experience as a writer.
I’ve always been so sure that writing is my career path. It’s my form of therapy and a place for me to release my creativity.
However, this mosquito-like energy keeps flying around me. I’m seeing that my mind keeps allowing this word to rent a space in my private space.
In May, I’m learning to swat away the doubt, fears, and anxiety of pursuing my dreams. …
I opened the book
Hooked on each word
Grasping every page between my fingers
— escaping my reality
Her heart flutters
As her eyes met with his
The curve from her beautiful smile
To the wrinkles around his eyes
— it was love at first sight
The midnight sky
Captures her big blue eyes
A soft kiss from the wind
While the tree leaves sways back in forth
The crickets sing around the porch
Not a single noise coming from the street
— tonight is what she calls peace
Dear Future Me,
I hope you know I’m curious…
I like to write stories that I would read if I were to stumble upon them at the bookstore.
I love reading books, exploring new worlds, and escaping my reality.
As I’ve grown older, I began to let my inner critic get the best of me. For example, “What if I’m not good enough to be an author?”
So, I kept pushing my love for storytelling away from me.
In 2020, I decided to take a leap of faith towards my writing career. I saw some amazing results on Medium. …
High school wasn’t the best four years of my life. It was a decent experience but it wasn’t amazing.
However, I gained valuable lessons that helped me grow as a person. I took that lesson with me to college.
I like to think that I put my best foot forward in college. I didn’t make the same mistakes and life was smooth sailing.
It’s worth mentioning that college was a huge contributor to my happiness and why I’m the person that I am today.
So, if I can have a conversation with any high school student who’s struggling right now…
Some of the best music hits in history have quite a bit of history behind it.
It’s interesting to find out that the artists behind these hit songs weren’t supposed to have the songs from the start.
I know, it’s insane how the music industry works.
As I’m learning more about music distribution and the behind-the-scenes work of this industry, I’m starting to see that many artists know their style well. There’s always a reason why they reject one song and replace it with another song.
Therefore, I was curious about this topic and I did a bit of research…
Welcome back to another monthly curation of my popular and unpopular stories on Medium. Along with a short reading list, I also share a reflection on everything that happened in April. If you would like to follow this series, please follow me at (Jen)!
April was an interesting and stressful month for me. I think this month forced me to re-evaluate my life.
At the same time, I have a strong feeling that change is coming my way in my career and personal life. That’s probably why I felt all sorts of emotions throughout the month.
In other words, a…
I’ve had over 10 stories get curated on Medium. Honestly, there’s no “secret formula” to getting curated.
If anything, it depends on your luck and the quality of your story. However, these four things are commonly found in my curated stories:
An “Ah” moment means I learned something useful or it was an interesting post. A “Ha” moment means the story was entertaining. I encourage you to hit one or the other.
Brownie points if you hit both!
My YSL story wasn’t chosen for curation until I changed the tags. …
I think when I was 10 years old, I grew a love for reading books and magazines. I remembered I read comic books, kids' novel series, and kids graphic books.
I agree with this saying because I grew a love for reading, writing, and editing as an adult. It’s crazy to think that I’m working towards a career that I once dreamt about as a kid.
If it’s fictional content, I like to write romantic comedy stories. If it’s non-fiction, I’ll usually write about education, pop culture, and career. …
