BLACKPINK’s “Love To Hate Me” Review & Meaning
BLACKPINK released their first album and it’s amazing!
I’ve been a BLINK since 2016 and I can’t believe BLACKPINK finally released their new album.
Surprisingly, “Love To Hate Me” was my most favorite song on the album and I’ve been listening to it non-stop.
When I first listened to the song, I was instantly blown away by Rosè’s angelic voice and Jennie’s powerful vocals. When Jisoo sang in English, I was so proud of her because her English improved so much!
However, what absolutely sold me to this song was Lisa’s rap. Her rap verse and style gave me a late-90s and early 2000s feel; which I believe was one of the best era in music history.
What Does this Song Mean?
In my opinion, Rosè and Jennie are calling their haters out because they don’t want to congratulate BLACKPINK for their success. Rather, they would choose to get angry over things that don’t really matter to BLACKPINK.
While the haters are focusing on the negativity, BLACKPINK is focusing on their money and success. Then we go to Jisoo’s part where she’s shrugging off the haters because she’s focusing on the positive things in life. She’s not giving them the time and attention.
As for Lisa, she’s talking about love and hate in a universal way. One-second she’s referencing a love interest while the next second she’s dissing the haters. Basically, she’s not putting up with fake people anymore and she’s putting her foot down. She mentions her strength, success, and independence too which shows everybody that she’s a powerful person on her own.
However, what made this song powerful was when BLACKPINK took their power back from their haters and (possibly) a former lover interest when they said:
“You ain’t worth my love, If you only love to hate me…”
